MRI's and Allergies

I am so very sorry for not updating sooner. I have been so busy here with doctor's appointments for the kids and adults! I know everyone has been wondering about my breast MRI on Tuesday. I was on my way to the appointment when the school called. Paisley was having trouble breathing and they needed me to pick her up immediately. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find anyone to pick her up for me, so I had to turn around and head back to our town to get her. I called and tried to tell the hospital that I would be late, but I would be there as soon as I could get there. They refused to hold the appointment for me so I ended up having to cancel. I am so upset that I didn't get the MRI done, but it really couldn't be helped. I am trying to get my doctor to reschedule it now. I'm having a hard time getting anyone from the office to call me back. I can't take all this waiting. It's driving me crazy to not know what's going on with my health.
I took Delaney to the allergist yesterday. Her GI doctor wanted a series of allergy testing performed on her. He decided we needed to know what foods she is allergic to and what food she is not allergic to. I came home with a HUGE list of "foods to avoid" and a child covered in whelps. FUN, FUN! I honestly don't know what to feed the kid now! It's amazing she has even survived this long on what I've been feeding her. Here are a few of the items off the "foods to avoid" list:
artificial butter, butter, buttermilk, casein, caseinates, cheese, cream, cottage cheese, custard, ghee, lactulose, milk (in all forms including condensed, derivative, dry, evaporated, goat's milk, powdered, protein, skimmed, solids, and whole), nisin, nougat, pudding, recaldent, rennet casein, sour cream, caramel, chocolate, high protein flour, lactose, lunch meats, hot dogs, sausage, margarine, egg, mayonnaise, meringue, marshmallows, macaroni, soy, soy sauce, all Asian cuisine, soy fiber, soy flour, soybean curd, tofu, textured vegetable protein, vegetable broth, vegetable gum, vegetable starch. That's just to name a few in each category! Some of those things listed are on there because they contain the same ingredients. Basically, she is allergic to gluten, milk, soy, and eggs! Anyone have any ideas on what I should feed her? I sure don't have a clue! Her allergies pretty much knock out all the food groups. The kid can't live off of green beans forever.
Any suggestions for feeding her will be greatly appreciated. I mean, REALLY!

I will update on here when I get a new appointment scheduled for my MRI. Please continue to pray that it's not breast cancer that I'm dealing with. And please pray for
Tim over at Fort Thompson. He is having some tests run today. Sadly, he is also dealing with a cancer scare of his own. Rally around him and show him the kindness and support you have all shown me. Have a Blessed day!!!

  2. Another thing on your plate? Poor Kaleena!
There are lots of resources on the internet for parents of kids with food allergies. My nephew has an egg-soy-peanut allergy. My sister felt overwhelmed when he was diagnosed with these allergies six months ago, but now has a firm hold on it all. She has been most encouraged by support groups on ivillage.
Hang in there, and I hope you get another appointment for your MRI soon.

  3. Ok, first I would like to say I am allergic to all soy, nuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, gluten, wheat, and modified starches! Label reading will become sexond nature for you and it actually gets pretty easy. Soy does get tricky as it is in everything, but basically, there are alternatives. Veggies and fruit are great; meat is great too. Just be careful with marinades and added mixtures too. There are several companies out there that make allergy-free foods:
    ** Enjoy life
    ** Namaste
    ** Ener-G
    ** Lundberg
I know that there is only one kind of lunch meat that I can have since it does not have any add-ins or wheat/soy/ect. Please feel free to email me if you have ANY questions at all. It does take time and you will get it. Hang in there and good luck! Love and prayers!

  4. So happy you have someone knowledgeable on here who gave great links! Yay "Following Him!" I'm pretty useless here.

I hate that your MRI had to be rescheduled but remember there are reasons for everything. Maybe the tech who will be on or the radiologist who will read them on this new day will be even more skilled than the one today. Still praying for you all, dear heart.

  6. I am so sorry that you have to keep going through all of this. I have been praying for you, and will continue to. I don't know any safe foods that your daughter could enjoy, but I think you could find tons of recipes on the internet. Just google something short that will sum up your question about safe foods to eat when you have food allergies.

  8. hmmmmm as for the allergy issues you may or may not hav been to this blog. She just posted about dairy and I found it interesting.

You have a pretty wide group to avoid... when we were looking for my son's allergies I googled and found some great alternative.

Praying that everything works to get you into that MRI soon! It is too scary to not know. Maybe the delay is all part of the plan....

  9. Wow, it sure sounds like you have a full plate right now. In situations like these, all you can do is keep praying, knowing God is always there to lean on.

Thanks for the follow! I've added myself to your follow list too.

  10. One of my son's was allergic to milk only and that was hard enough. I feel for you. But, it looks like some folks have given you some good suggestions for resources already.
I will be waiting for you to tell us about your MRI. I hope that can get scheduled very soon.
