I never did find that "perfect" dress for my Laneybug's birthday. I really think that I looked everywhere I could think of and I just didn't have any luck. If you know anything at all about me, you know I'm nothing if not determined. So I decided to teach myself to sew. I don't own a sewing machine. I'm dangerous with sharp objects and pointy things. Kaleena + sewing machine = emergency room! (I'm actually not even allowed to use a knife in my own home.) Totally off subject of sewing, one time I cut myself slicing ham, but I didn't cut myself with the knife. Nope, I managed to cut myself with the ham bone! Then there was this other time that I was opening a package of plastic (yes, you read that right, PLASTIC) spoons, and I cut myself with the handle of one of the spoons! Got some nice stitches for that one! But I digress....
Yes, I decided to teach ME to sew. Here's what I came up with. Be honest now, tell me what you really think? But be gentle, and keep in mind that I did this by hand and this is my first ever attempt at sewing anything!
This is the hairbow that I made for her to wear

I'm not really finished with it yet. I still need to put the ladybugs on the front and I was thinking about getting some iron-on embroidery letters so that I can put her name on the front. so what do you think?
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust one thing, when you iron on her beautiful name, don't burn yourself k? :)
Sweetie, if you did all that By hand YOU deserve a HAND OF APPLAUSE!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice!
Wow! Kaleena, I agree with Verna, you ROCK! That does not look like something someone with no experience has made... Really lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou taught yourself to do this???!!!??? You are amazing!!!! These are really terrific!! So very, very pretty!!! Hurrah!!! What a lucky little girl!! Love you~Janine XO
ReplyDeleteWow! I am totally impressed!
ReplyDeleteI laughed at Erica's comment....wish I had said it Erica! Cute!!
ReplyDeleteKnowing your history with sharp objects, I had to smile, Kaleena.
You did a great job with the dress and the bow. I know that Laney will be a beautiful li'l ladybug.
I love your blogsite. It is very pretty...
Do you design it yourself? Very impressive.
Smiles from Jackie
Ummm... If you don't own a sewing machine, did you do all of that by hand. Either way I'm impressed. I recently sewed the kids' eyeball t-shirts (remember their monster costumes) and that was enough sewing for me for a while. I don't own a sewing machine either and it was kind of a task. Fun, but a task.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very cute dress and I'm sure she's going to look adorable in it.
That is so awesome! I love it!
ReplyDeleteAlso? I am laughing over here because I'm not allowed to handle knives either. I have cut right THROUGH MY THUMB NAIL WITH A BUTTER KNIFE *cough*recently*cough*
I was teasing my husband about his inability to give the baby a bottle, and said something to the effect of, "I can never go away, because the baby would starve! I'd come home, and he'd be a pile of bones, and you'd just stand there and tell me, 'I offered the bottle, but he didn't want it'." to which he replied, "If you went away, I'd figure it out, but if I went away, you'd cut off all your fingers and be unable to feed the baby with your stubs!"
