Small Confession

First off, thank you to everyone for the nice comments about the dress I made for Laneybug's ladybug birthday. I can't wait to finish putting the ladybugs on it. I'll post pictures when I finally get it finished. I'm a little stunned that the dress turned out as well as it did. I really haven't ever been a sewer. To be perfectly honest, I took a Home Ec. class in high school. I'm ashamed to say that Home Ec. is the only class that I ever failed in all my years of education. Why did I fail? Because when we were learning to sew, someone (not mentioning any names here....could've been me) had to go to the ER because she got a sewing machine needle stuck in her finger in the middle of class. Can I say ouch? Same person also broke a Serge (spelling?) machine. So, she failed Home Ec. She was heart-broken. I, um, I mean SHE survived though. Fast forward about 10 years, and here I am, a somewhat ambitious, stay-at-home mommy with 3 girls who deserve pretty things, and no budget to provide those pretty things. Hence the reasoning behind me learning to make hairbows. Also, the reasoning behind me deciding that it was time to learn to sew. Did you know that you can MAKE a dress ALOT cheaper than you can BUY one? Yeah, I was skeptical too. Seriously, some styles of fabric are pretty cheap! I paid less than $5 for the material to make Laneybug's ladybug dress. Which is good for me because I only had $5 to spare last week! I don't own a sewing machine so I had to sew it all by hand. Not a big deal because I still feel a little faint just looking at a sewing machine. I'll save that story for therapy though. Anyway....I just wanted to say thanks for the compliments on my newest hobby (can I call it a hobby if I've only just discovered that I can almost semi-sew?!) I gotta say though, you should see my crooked stitches on that dress. Or maybe you shouldn't.
Oh yeah, in case you're interested.....I made another dress for her and plan to try to make the big girls a dress too when I can come up with the $$$$ for some more material:) I just LOVE the sleeveless "jumpers" that little girls are wearing these days. Of course, it helps that they are SUPER-SIMPLE to make!!!!! Smiles to you all:)

  1. Look at how resourceful you are! Plus you are being such a good role model for your girls in that you don't sit around and lament the cost of new clothes, you get busy and figure out a way to make some! Awesome job mom! Can't wait to see the girls all decked out!

  2. That's great! Especially if you are actually enjoying it because having a hobby is a good stress reliever. The girls are gonna look cute!

  3. You do better without a sewing machine than I do WITH one, Kaleena.
Aren't you clever! You've done a fabulous job.
And your web page...very nicely designed, Kaleena. You have talent galore! Thank you for sharing these stories. I love reading them.
    Smiles to you from Jackie

  4. Wow, the dress looks amazing!!! You did far better than I ever could, that's for sure. My mom keeps telling me that making clothes for the kids would be so much cheaper than buying them and then she says, "It's a lot of fun and so relaxing". I'm not sure how sewing can be relaxing with 4 little ones running around.
