I'm Not Betty Crocker

So I got this crazy idea that I should bake something from scratch. Not my brightest idea. I forgot to consider how messy that could get. Don't they say that hindsight is 20/20?
I chose a cinnamon roll recipe. The pictures in the book made it look easy and yummy. I can do this. Right? That's what I kept telling myself as I got out my ingredients and went to work on my creation. I decided to modify the recipe a bit. I didn't want to make regular white icing. I wanted to make caramel icing for my cinnamon rolls. THAT part was surprisingly easy! (Did you know that you don't have to have actual caramel to make a caramel icing? You did know? Oh, um, yeah, me too.)

Well, long story short, I made caramel cinnamon rolls and destroyed my kitchen in the process. They didn't look anything like the picture, in fact, they were ugly. I couldn't get them rolled tight enough or something. They still tasted good enough to eat, but the mess that I had to clean up afterwards? Yuck! Give me a can of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls anyday!

On a completely different subject, we will be repairing our roof next week and the girls will be able to have their room back! I am dancing a little jig over here:) Thank God for speedy tax returns!!!!

Delaney went to the cardiologist on Tuesday. They found another heart murmur. Did you know that you can have 2 heart murmurs? I didn't. Dr. Jennings said that both are fairly harmless and not something we need to be worried about. He also said that she has an accessory path in her heart that is causing the rapid heart beat. It is located in the same location as Bobby's! Dr. J was Bobby's pediatric cardiologist as well, so he is very familiar with our family history:) He wants to keep an eye on it for now and maybe try to treat it with a low dosage of medication. It's a "mild" version of SVT and she should be just fine. Bobby was diagnosed with SVT as a child and eventually he was diagnosed with VT. She will be monitored at night and during naps and we are also going to do a study to see how often she actually has an episode and how long it actually lasts. Most of the time that I have noticed it, she is sleeping. Dr. J assures us that she'll be fine and I'm just going to choose not to worry about it unless it turns into a major problem. Hope everyone is having a fantastic week:)

  1. Oh they looked just fine. Remember practice makes perfect. Although I'm with you, who wants to spend a lot of time cleaning up the mess that is sure to follow one of those good old-fashioned baking from scratch moments. Not me! And for the record I didn't know you could make caramel icing without actual caramel so you are not alone.

Yay! for speedy tax returns gets an AMEN! Mine should be here on Friday and I am oh so excited.

Whatch mean have a good week? Are you planning on not being around because don't you think you've been MIA enough lately ;0)

  4. Good news about getting the roof fixed next week. The girls will be happy to be back in their room, minus some toys and the toy chest. The cinnamon buns look great to me - I'm not one for the many steps way of cooking - I like easy and fast. Good news about Delaney and her two heart murmurs - I like that the doctor reassured you she would be just fine. So, take a deep breath and enjoy the rest of your week. Hugs to you.

  5. I don't know how many times I have made something from scratch wondering later, "what was I thinking?" I guess it's all about the experience...but packaged is so much easier to clean up!
I'm so glad that what they found with Delaney's heart is not a reason for alarm at this point. You guys need a reprieve from worry for a while. You are in my thoughts and prayers....even when I don't visit for long stretches! :)

  6. The cinnamon roll looks yummy. Nothing like my last cookies from scratch that were burnt beyond eating.

Glad you will be able to get the roof fixed and hopefully back to a bit more of normal life. You do need a reprieve from worry for a while. May God grace you with less worries, and lots of love.

    Praying for all of you.
